Community K-12 Heartsaver® Courses

This AHA Heartsaver course is offered at a lower rate to the McKenzie River community at the Upper McKenzie Community Center in partnership with the McKenzie River Community School.

This course combines first aid with CPR/ AED training to give anyone in the McKenzie River community a broad base of lifesaving skills.

This course can be taken separately as CPR/AED or First Aid only, or taken together as one First Aid/ CPR/ AED course.

In the First Aid portion of the course, you will learn:

  • The key steps in first aid

  • Assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke

  • Use an epinephrine pen

  • Control bleeding and bandaging

  • Illness and injury prevention

  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

  • Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies

In the CPR/AED portion o the course, you will learn:

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, child, and infant

  • Use an AED on an adult and child

  • Adult, child, and infant choking

This course is for the McKenzie River community. Being an hour from town in a rural setting, we often face challenges (power outages, wildfires, snow storms, floods, etc) that are not encountered in urban settings, where EMS can respond in minutes.

Having survived multiple disasters, it is beneficial to our community to have the skills and knowledge to act when faced with an emergency.

Classroom time for the full First Aid/ CPR/ AED course is approximately 6 hours

First Aid only: 3 hours

CPR/AED only: 3 hours

Full First Aid/ CPR/ AED Price - $25

First Aid only or CPR/AED only price - $16.50

Upon completion, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver® K-12 First Aid/ CPR/ AED Certification e-card valid for 2 years.
